Court To Hold Trials Off-Site

Kamuli: The\r\nJudiciary in Kamuli District will with effect from August, 2016 conduct some\r\ntrials outside gazetted court premises in order to allow for more citizens’ to\r\naccess justice.

The move was announced in\r\nLuzinga Township in Kamuli on Friday 22 July, 2016 by Buyende Kamuli Grade I\r\nMagistrate, Her Worship Sheila Fionah Angura, during the launch by the Justice,\r\nLaw and Order Sector (JLOS) of the open court outreach programme, which is to\r\nrun under the theme "Administration of Justice for Women and Children”.

\r\nThe launch was organized by Kamuli Magistrate’s Court in conjunction with the\r\ndistrict local government, and non-governmental organizations such as Justice\r\nfor children, Uganda Women’s Network, the Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA)\r\nand Plan International.

"The courts are going to the\r\npeople to help witnesses access court easily,” H/W Angura said. She, however,\r\ncalled on the public to take part in the administration of justice and curbing\r\ncrime, by ensuring that cases are reported and also supporting the prosecution\r\nof criminals. H/W Angura also urged the public to get rid of stereotypes born\r\nout of traditions that infringe on the rights of women.

Speaking during the same\r\nfunction, Kamuli Resident District Commissioner, Mr Moses Ddumba, warned the\r\npeople against what he termed as ‘criminalization of crime’. "While you cry over delayed justice you should be sincere and follow up to give\r\nevidence,” he added.
